Application Procedures

M. Ed. and Ph. D. Application Procedures

Although we encourage you to contact faculty for information about your fit, your interests in the program, or visiting campus, please do not send application materials directly to faculty. To be considered for admission, you must apply and have a completed file for review by the admissions committee.

Admission Criteria for Doctoral Degree Program

  • Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average:  3.0 or equivalent required for unconditional admission
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Required: In general, a combined GRE verbal and quantitative score of 1000 (300 for revised GRE Test) or more is expected.
  • ETS Personal Potential Index (PPI) Applicants are encouraged to complete the ETS Personal Potential Index (PPI) when registering for the GRE.
  • TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers:
    • Minimum Paper-Based Test (PBT) Score Required: 550
    • Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 77
    • With the following minimum section requirements:
      • Reading: 19
      • Listening: 14
      • Speaking: 18
      • Writing: 18
  • IELTS (alternative exam for TOEF:  Minimum Score required: 6.5
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic Module): An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 58 or higher will be accepted
  • TWE for for Non-Native English Speakers (if TOEFL PBT taken): Required minimum score of 5

If you do not meet the basic requirements described above, please do not submit an electronic application until you have contacted our graduate program staff.

Deadline for Gifted Education, Ph.D. is December 15 for fellowships.

Application Procedures

To apply for the M. Ed. and Ph.D. degree, complete the Graduate School Admissions Application.

  1. Click ‘Create an account’; enter email address, name, and birthdate and click ‘Continue’ 
  2. On the application, for Campus, Major, Area of Interest, and Degree Objective:
    1. Select a Campus: West Lafayette (Main Campus)
    2. Select your proposed graduate major: Educational Studies
    3. Area of Interest: Gifted Education
    4. Select a Degree Objective: M. Ed. / Ph.D. degree
  3. Finish application and submit
